Goal 3 - Model digital-age work, research, collaboration and learning

For students to realize the capabilities and importance of technology in the 21st century, they need to witness it being used in effective and engaging ways first. Some of the most important skills to showcase include communicating, problem-solving, and collaborating with others using digital tools in order to accomplish various learning tasks. Secondly, with the presence of media messages that students are bombarded with on a daily basis, it is crucial that they are media and visually literate. Lastly, due to the invention of the Internet, vast amounts of information are available at the click of a mouse. Therefore, they must be able to effectively and efficiently locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information and resources to meet their learning needs.

I am confident in my own abilities to communicate and collaborate with digital tools, locate and use information, and to interpret and analyze media. I have modeled digital-age work for my colleagues by showing them how to collaborate with technology in order to work smarter, not harder. As a result of my demonstrations and trainings, many teachers have also changed the way that they conduct business on a daily business. Because of this, I have been promoted to a dean of students position. In this position, I use collaborative tools for school-wide management and to collect data about student behaviors. Beside being confident within my abilities to model digital-age work for my fellow educators, I feel that my confidence has grown tremendously in my abilities to teach these skills to my students. Throughout the program, I have found more ways to get students involved in digital-age research, collaboration, and learning with technology.
